Description

Fascial Manipulation is a science-based treatment which involves manual therapy of the muscles and fasciae (connective tissue) to reduce pain and stiffness as well as restore muscular balance and movement control. Its benefit is to greatly improve your agility. Fasciae are the connective tissues that are literally everywhere in our body. Old school thinking used to regard it as a mere “filler” tissue surrounding muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons. New school thinking now considers our fascial system as a kind of 6th sensory organ, central to the coordination and feedback system that controls our movements. Normal, healthy tissue has a kind of liquid lubricant between the fascial layers which allows the connective tissue to slide smoothly while we are moving. Stress and injuries to our tissues cause this lubricant to thicken up, creating adhesions between the layers of fasciae. These adhesions can trap small nerves and blood vessels within them, leading to pain and inflammation. These adhesions also modify the feedback from the specific body part back to our brain, thereby altering our movement control. Fascial Manipulation is a diagnostic and treatment system that relieves these connective tissue adhesions, reducing pain and improving mobility. How does Fascial Manipulation (FM) work? The exact mechanism of Fascial Manipulation has been discovered only recently in the research of myofascial stiffness (regarding muscles and fasciae) and its response to friction. By using manual techniques, a friction is created which increases the temperature within the tissues as well as localized inflammation in specific areas (CC’s and CF’s). Thereby, the adhesions “melt away”, which restores the normal gliding ability of the soft tissues and therefore the normal movement control through our nervous system. What type of problems can FM help with? • Headaches and Migraines • Joint Pain & Discomfort • Neck Pain • Low Back & Hip Pain • Sciatica • Osteoarthritis (chronic joint condition harming the joint cartilage and the adjacent tissue)
